The production, directed by the founder of Theatre Cinema, Zbigniew
Szumski, is the fruit of extensive work with excellent Mexican actors
from Diplomado Teatro del Cuerpo. Full of music and dance, the
surrealistic performance portrays imaginary lesson run by Cortes. The
Mexican actors, in a sequence of theatrical sketches, tell about their
own, most personal fears and the process of adapting to them. Through
"gymnastic exercises" the fears are tamed. Each show is an attempt
for the actors to square off not only with their private obsessions
but also with their bodies' imprecision and imperfection. Who is
laughing at my fears? is a deceptive and playful story about the
continuous effort to square off with one's self.
One of the anxieties is the fear of precision, without this fear there
is no gymnastics, without gymnastics this anxiety can't be brought
under control. In every presentation of the performance there is an
unknown. There is no guarantee of managing the fears.
Close your eyes and feel the pull of gymnastics.
