ANCIENT ORCHESTRA

The project was run in Centre for Theatre Practices between July, 2001 and March, 2004

The project was run by Tomasz Rodowicz and Maciej Rychły
and it invloved :

Research on ancient music, reconstructing the relics of ancient music, arranging and adapting them to be performed by the Orchestra.
Reconstruction of ancient instruments based on iconography in cooperation with the experts on old instruments, musicologists and traditional musicians.
Work on vocal techniques originating from various singing traditions based on music material.
Work on the techniques of playing the reconstructed string, wind and percussion instruments.
Public presentations - concerts.

Collaboration with traditional musicians and musicologists from Southern and Central Europe, Middle East and North Africa in order to explore the connections between contemporary traditional music and ancient music.
Documentation of research work carried by the Orchestra and recording of the arranged music
Education - a programme of popularising foundations and sources of European music among students and secondary schools pupils.

The Ancient Orchestra performs
at the theatre premises in Gardzienice :
and in other inviting institutions.

In year 2003/2004 the Ancient Orchestra realises the project
"Unknown Sources of European Music
Ancient Greece"
in the programm "Culture 2000"
of Commission of the European Union.
