UKRAINE - POLAND - EUROPE

A project of the Centre for Theatre Practices of two editions so far (2002, 2001), realised under the auspices the Ministry of Culture.
The idea of the project is a result of the years' long contacts and cooperation with the Ukrainian artists.

Genesis

In 1991 Włodzimierz Staniewski assisted
by Tomasz Rodowicz and Mariusz Gołaj organised the first artistic Expedition
to Ukraine. The company traveled across
the Carpathians, the Huculia region,
the Verhovyna and Bystreca areas.
In 1993 roku international Expedition 'Hidden Territories' reached Bulgarian, Moldavian
and Gypsy enclaves - on Lake Kitay,
in Bessarabia and the Odessa region, northern Polesie, the Rovne and Sarn regions, immediate victims of the Chernobyl catastrophe, the Carpathian villages
of Krasnoilja, Zełene, Bystrec, Kryworównia.
The participants of the Expedition were: actors, musicians, trainees, observers
from several countries, including Denmark, Iceland, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden
and the USA.
Each completed stage of the Expedition
was culminated by Gathering at the Lesio Kurbas Theatre in Lvov. At the Lvov Dominican Theatre were presented performances of 'Carmina Burana', 'The Life of Protopop Avvakum'. The most spectacular Gathering took place in Verhovyna, former Żabie village (the Huculia Region).
It was attended by sixty participants
of the Expedition and a number of traditional folk groups and soloists, among them
the famous charismatic violinist Mogur.
Expeditions led to organizing symposia
and workshops, their guests being Ukrainian artists.
