PALACE

The 17th c construction, first built as a fortified castle, later rebuilt in the Baroque style. Having suffered from a number of fires it was converted into a manor residence in the late 19th c.

W In 1944 the building was nationalised and given to the Folk University of Gardzienice. In the early 2001 it became
a property of the Świdnik district. Years' long and fast progressing degradation of the premises may lead to their complete ruin.

The Centre for Theatre Practices has used the Arian chapel of the palace from the very beginning.

The Arian Chapel

The Arian chapel adjoining the Gardzienice Palace was likely to be erected in the late 16th c. The Gardzienice area was the major abode of Reformation in the former Lublin voivodeship. It was the most influential center of the followers of Faust Socyn, a distinguished reformer of unitarism.

In 1978 the Centre for Theatre Practices rented the chapel from the Folk University and restored it.

The disused Arian chapel - the studio for training and performances

Rehearsals and performances were taking place in a small hall
(5 x 7 metres), later nicknamed 'Avvakum Hall' after the title of the performance. Until 1990 it was the only space
for rehearsals and performances.
The Chapel requires renovation.
